EVENT | Futuristic Beauty Show in aid of Nepal Earthquake Victims

The closing Dublin Fashion Festival event, the Futuristic Beauty show, that I attended with my sister (who got the tickets - thanks Emily!), took place last Sunday. I had no idea what to expect, as this was to be no ordinary fashion show; a recycled design competition, futuristic body painting show and dance entertainment were only a few things to be hosted at the Ballsbridge Hotel. I had a feeling it would be at least an interesting end to the week!

The event, run by Cradle, was in aid of the Nepal Earthquake victims; so no matter how good the show was, the €30 Emily and I paid would have been worth it as it was for a good cause. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the show was creatively amazing, but the event itself did have its minor flaws.

THE EVENT ITSELF
So much for telling us it would start at 7.30, as it didn't kick off until after 8. Also, the break ran for 40 minutes rather than the promised ten. The main downside of this is that we didn't get to stay for the Menswear or the Fashion Tech show as it was almost 10 pm by the time the half time break ended.

Other than those flaws, the event was quite entertaining. The music was loud, the lights were colourful and the theme of Futuristic Beauty was seen prominently. Following the design competition was a body paint 'display', let's say, which was very odd... but cool. An interpretive dance group performed a few songs, and if you followed me on snapchat (cheeky plug alert *queenofquirk*), you would have seen that I thought one of them looked like either Joe Sugg or Connor Franta.

As it was running so late, we missed the ending of the show and the results of the competition, but nonetheless Emily and I enjoyed ourselves!

THE RECYCLED DESIGN COMPETITION
This was the best part of the show that I got to see, as very unique looks were put together that made me go 'oooh' and 'ahhh'. My favourites are in the third photo of this set of pictures, which includes a dress with a dramatic poofy high low skirt of plastic. The hair, make up and shoes were stunning and linked perfectly to each theme. The model in the centre in the image above was wearing pointe shoes, walking on her toes the entire time; that must have been a bit painful!

One of the designers who entered the competition was only twelve years old, and without a doubt I was amazed watching her design live on the catwalk and sitting in the fourth or so row. In fact, the twelve year old was sitting a bit ahead of us; we spotted her as she went up to showcase her designs one last time. She wore a similar designed white dress, complimenting her futuristic looks.

Overall, I adored the creativity, hard work and passion that was put into these designs.

  1. What a fun event and for a great cause too. It looked like so much fun. Its a pity the break was so long though and that it started later than when it was meant to - I know it can be a long wait !!.
